A meal arriving at a community building can bring a question for people who did not order it. Washingtonian’s March 10, 2017 account described Starship robots carrying nine cameras. The same report attributed a hypothetical theft response to Starship’s Nick Handrick: a robot could capture a thief’s face. That is not evidence of routine facial recognition or a documented image-retention policy. NBC’s March 10 reporting supplies a useful comparison. It described an alarm triggered by lifting the robot and a lid unlocked by the customer through an app. Hosts could ask what additional protection face imagery would provide alongside those mechanisms. Invite delivery users, visitors, staff and people with religious and nonreligious perspectives to weigh convenience, theft prevention and dignity.
